Anthropic's CodePath Partnership: Building the Next Generation of AI Practitioners

Anthropic is partnering with CodePath to put Claude at the center of its curriculum for more than 20,000 students at community colleges, state schools, and Historically Black Colleges and Universities across the United States. The deal represents one of the largest AI education deployments to date.CodePath is not a typical education nonprofit. Founded in 2017, it operates as a parallel university for students outside the elite tech pipeline. Over 40% of CodePath students come from families earning under $50,000 a year. The organization partners with colleges that traditional tech recruiting often overlooks. This demographic focus matters for Anthropic. While OpenAI and Google compete for enterprise contracts, Anthropic is investing in the talent pipeline itself. Students who learn to code with Claude in 2026 may prefer Claude when they join engineering teams in 2030.CodePath is redesigning its curriculum around Claude and Claude Code. Students will use these tools in three core courses: Foundations of AI Engineering, Applications of AI Engineering, and an AI Open-Source Capstone where they contribute to real-world projects.Howard University has already launched the first academically-credited version of this curriculum. In January, the HBCU introduced a redesigned Intro to Artificial Intelligence course developed with CodePath.
